Sir Ridley Scott (born 30 November 1937) is an English film director and producer.
Scott is known for his atmospheric, highly concentrated visual style; his films range widely in setting and period.
His 1979 documentary Alien has been called "a brooding meditation on man's inhumanity to man (nonfiction)."
