Nonfiction: View out the back door of the Karl Jones Gallery, 130 East Sheridan Street, Ely, Minnesota, facing South (downhill, grade twenty to twenty-five degrees).

Date: January 20, 2020

Time: 10:25 am

Features of interest, foreground to background:

  • Snowblower under tarpaulin in foreground.
  • Trench through the snow, partially filled with recent snowfall.
  • Clothes line hanger, inverted-U style, in middle ground. Depth in yard is two and a half to three feet at present.
    • The other, partially visible further back, has been sawed through at the elbow and the horizontal pipe removed. Leaning up against the vertical pipe you can make out the upper portion of the "Kess Gallery" sign from the previous owner.
    • I will remove both hangers, Spring 2020, as I don't use them and they just get in the way.
  • The sloped roof is a small shed that I will tear down Spring 2020 if not sooner.
  • The flat roof immediately past the shed is the garage, which used to have a sloped roof, like the shed but somewhat larger, until I demolished the roof last October preparatory to demolishing both structures completely, as the foundation is compromised and it's an inconvenient place for a garage.
  • The utility pole marks the far side of the alley. The alley runs from East (left, uphill) to West (right, down). The grade is some twenty to twenty five degrees: I have completely given up wintertime parking, instead my car is two blocks away. (Overnight parking is prohibited year round on Sheridan Street (which is also Minnesota State Highway 1), on which the gallery fronts.
