"The Triumphalism of Herodotus" is a short poem by Karl Jones.

Poem

As to the memory of true Hellenic destiny —

Herodotus would have declared that "Adversity makes us stronger" as if trying to convince himself.

Then he would have belittled Persian luxury at length in a faintly envious tone.

School of Hard Knocks triumphalism.

History

Jones wrote the poem on the evening of Sunday, 15 November 2020 in a [ post on Twitter].
