"My First Program" is a true story.
Background
Minneapolis Public Schools was a national leader in getting computers into classrooms during the 1960s.
- In 1967, Eighteen School Districts Around the Twin Cities Created a Computing Network Connecting More Than 130,000 Students @ Zocalo Public Square
My First Program
When I was ten, I wrote my first computer program:
10 PRINT "KARL"
20 GOTO 10
RUN
Using only my mind (and its servants, my fingers), I had caused a machine to *endlessly replicate my name*.
Well, not endlessly: the instructor taught me about the BREAK key.
In the News
Running my first program at age ten filled my with a holy joy unmatched since William Blake saw God.
