The Curse of Arithmu is an upcoming horror film written, directed and edited by Kiribatian band Anatomy of the Heads @AoftheH and produced by Gnomon Studios.
History
The film is expected to show the far-reaching effects of addition on society. It is rumored that in the film, a phenomenon of mysterious origin will cause all things to be added together to form an all-encompassing whole. Although the film is not at the beginning of the genre, it is made with the intention of popularizing the concept of mathematical horror.
A subgenre of horror films that developed retroactively from the film Hellraiser (1987) and selected works related to H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, particularly the short story "The Hounds of Tindalos" by Frank Belknop Long.
Anatomy of the Heads are known for their fondness for Italian giallo films of the late 1970s. The film is believed to be inspired by genre characteristics, such as a focus on settings characterized by exaggerated colors, an avoidance of traditional crime stories, and the depiction of graphic and stylized murders.
Controversy
The film's production has been marked by controversy. The premise of the film was criticized on Twitter, among other things, as mathematically inaccurate, as well as being a "paranoid neoliberal-capitalist fever dream about the dwindling exceptionalism of the individual" and a piece of "reactionary escapism in the face of all-encompassing globalism."
