"The Triumphalism of Herodotus" is a short poem by Karl Jones.

Poem

Herodotus would have declared that "Adversity makes us stronger" as if trying to convince himself.

Then he would belittle Persian luxury at length with surprisingly intimate familiarity in a faintly envious tone.
